Local election candidate register privacy statement
Personal data in the register will be used for presenting candidates on the SAK Kuntavaalikone.fi website. The data will also be used as necessary in order to invite candidates to supplement their details, and to inform them about the goals and social influencing work of SAK. Processing of data is based on the consent of candidates, which is given when registering for the service.

4 Purpose and basis of processing personal data
The personal data are used for presenting candidates on the SAK Kuntavaalikone.fi website. Kuntavaalikone.fi is a public online service that gathers information on candidates in the 2021 local elections who are members or employees of an SAK-affiliated trade union.
The Kuntavaalikone.fi website enables visitors to browse and search for candidates based on municipality, trade union or political party.
The data are also used as necessary to invite candidates to supplement their information and to inform them of the goals and social influencing work of SAK.
5 Information in the data file
The register contains information on local election candidates.
Information presented on the Kuntavaalikone.fi website:
- first name and surname
- trade union
- political party
- municipality
- year of birth
- position or professional title
- presentation text
- links to the candidate’s website and social media pages
- photograph
The following details not displayed on the Kuntavaalikone.fi website are also retained for contact by SAK:
- e-mail address
- telephone number
- street address
- postcode
- postal district
6 Regular data sources
Personal details are obtained from the candidate in person.
7 Regular releases of data
SAK does not release information to third parties.
8 Transfer of information outside of the European Union or European Economic Area
The information displayed on the Kuntavaalikone.fi website is located on a Seravo server in Finland, and will not be transferred outside the EU or the EEA.
The information retained for SAK communications is located on the MailChimp newsletter server in the USA. SAK has entered into an agreement with MailChimp requiring this company to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation when processing the data, and to refrain from disclosing the data to third parties.
9 Personal data retention period
Data will be retained for no longer than six months after the local elections, i.e. until 18 October 2021, unless before this time a candidate gives specific permission to store the data for a longer period.
10 Principles of data file protection
Security and the protection of personal data are fully integrated into all use and processing of information at SAK, which processes all personal data securely and in the manner required by law.
The information in the register will only be used by SAK employees who need it for their working duties in accordance with their access rights.
SAK contractually ensures that its partners and service providers process data in accordance with current legislation at all times.
11 Right of access to information
Article 15 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 provides that a data subject is entitled to access personal data concerning him or her, meaning the right to inspect the said data.

12 Right to rectification
Candidates may rectify their own information by logging into the Kuntavaalikone.fi service.
13 Right to erase information
Candidates may choose to delete their information earlier than indicated at point 9. Information may be deleted by telephoning (+358 20 774 000) or e-mailing (sak@sak.fi) SAK.
14 Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
Article 77 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 provides that a data subject is entitled to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Ombudsman if he or she considers that processing of personal data infringes the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
